| DOST has regional offices as its implementing arm nationwide
which carry out the laws, rules, regulations, policies,
plans, programs and projects of DOST; provide effective
and efficient S&T services to the people in the area;
and coordinate with other government agencies and with
local government units in the regions an S&T matters. |
| Regional Offices were established when DOST was reorganized
from the then National Science Development Board (NSDB);
to the National Science and Technology Authority (NSTA)
on March 17, 1982 along with the vested broader policy
making and program implementing functions bestowed to
a government agency. Then it became a full pledge department
on January 30, 1987 under Executive Order No. 128, with
functions and responsibilities further expanded. Specifically,
Section 21, Chapter 5, Book IV of E.O. 292 (Administrative
Code of 1987) allowed the establishment, operation and
maintenance of a regional office, whenever appropriate,
in each of the administrative regions of the country to
be headed by a Regional Director, who shall report to
and subject to the supervision of the Undersecretary for
Regional Operations.
Three years after, the Provincial S&T Centers were
created through RA 6959 on July 31,1990 establishing
PSTCs in every province of the country attached under
the regional offices.
Presently, DOST has 14 Regional Offices including one
autonomous region, the Cordillera Autonomous Region
and the CARAGA Region and 73 Provincial S & T Centers
which are in full operation.
